Die Mediationsausbildung Berlin

Are you a leader, team manager, mediator, or someone who deals with conflicts daily? Whether in a professional or personal setting, addressing conflicts constructively requires diverse perspectives, skills, and approaches. In the mediation training in Berlin at CONSENSUS Campus, you will learn the mediation process, mediator’s role, various techniques and methods, communication, and various aspects of mediation in five training modules in Berlin.

Module 1: Introduction to Mediation

The “Introduction to Mediation” module lays the foundation for a successful learning journey as a training group. It provides participants with a comprehensive overview of the principles of mediation, the role and attitude of mediators, and an outline of the phases of mediation. Additionally, participants are introduced to various communication and mediation techniques.

Module 2: Communication Skills and Conflict Resolution

The “Communication Skills and Conflict Resolution” module builds on the foundations introduced in Module 1 and teaches essential communication skills and methods necessary for mediation practice. Participants learn different conversational and questioning techniques and have the opportunity to apply them in interactive exercises. This module focuses on Phases 0-3 of mediation in both theory and practice.

Module 3: Conflict Competence Based on Psychological Principles

The “Conflict Competence Based on Psychological Principles” module focuses on behavior in conflicts and the underlying psychological needs. It imparts important insights from neuroscience and psychology for practical application in mediation. Participants learn to handle emotions, both their own and those of the parties involved, and acquire skills for emotional work in conflict situations. The module emphasizes self-reflection and recognizing conflict dynamics, with practical simulations focusing on Phase 3 (exploring interests and needs) and Phase 4 (gathering and evaluating options).

Module 4: Ethics, Law, and Justice in Mediation

The “Ethics, Law, and Justice in Mediation” module focuses on the role of law in mediation and provides participants with an understanding of the interplay between law and justice. It addresses how to handle legal issues and legal arguments between the parties and possibly external advisors. Special interventions for justice conflicts and working with fairness criteria in evaluating solutions are also covered. Participants learn the distinction between permissible legal information and impermissible legal advice and are sensitized to recognize legally relevant facts. The module also covers the involvement of external advisors in mediation and the legal significance and enforceability of settlement agreements, with a focus on Phases 4 and 5 of mediation.

Module 5: Developing Your Mediation Style

The “Developing Your Mediation Style” module allows participants to further develop their individual mediation style by integrating the 5-phase model learned in the first four modules with methods from other mediation schools (e.g., clarification help, transformative mediation, metaphorical bridge), competencies from their professional backgrounds, and potentially new, creative ideas. A particular focus is on handling challenging situations in mediation and dealing with personal mistakes, risks, weaknesses, and failures. The use of individual sessions (caucus), shuttle mediation, and short-term mediation (prepared by individual sessions) are discussed as solutions for handling special challenges. These formats can also serve as a “dress rehearsal” for the final colloquium. A 360-degree feedback sharpens the assessment of participants’ potential and development opportunities. The training course culminates in a final colloquium where all participants can demonstrate their competence in a 20-minute mediation sequence followed by further questions.

Certifications of Mediation Training at Consensus in Berlin

The training course, guided by experienced mediators, spans 130 hours and meets the requirements of the Certified Mediators Training Regulation (ZMediatAusbV). Upon successful completion of the final colloquium, the completion certificate entitles you to register with the International Mediation Institute (IMI) as an IMI Qualified Mediator. After demonstrating your mediation competence and initial practical experience through supervision and detailed documentation of your own mediation case, you will also be awarded the University Certificate in Mediation in collaboration with the International School of Management (ISM).

To obtain the legally protected title of Certified Mediator (m/f/x) according to the Certified Mediators Training Regulation (ZMediatAusbV), a total of five supervised practical cases must be demonstrated within three years after completing the training course through duly completed and timely supervision certificates. To maintain this title permanently, a minimum of 40 further training hours must be completed every four years. For this purpose, we offer an extensive range of free webinars and challenging master classes.

If you aim for the highest qualification level in mediation and wish to be certified as a QVM® Mediator by the independent certification body of the Quality Alliance Mediation (QVM®), you can complement your training course with one of our advanced courses with a thematic focus of your choice (business mediation, family mediation, mediation in criminal law).
