Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do the module weekends work?

The mediation training comprises 120 hours: 5 modules, each with 24 hours of instruction. The face-to-face classes take place in the centrally located training rooms of the CONSENSUS Campus. The live online mediation learning unit is taught in the virtual classroom.

2. What are the requirements for mediation training?

Requirements for participation in the mediation training are a completed academic education and/or at least five years of relevant professional experience, a minimum age of 24 years and the submission of a curriculum vitae.

3. What happens if I miss a module weekend?

CONSENSUS CAMPUS is represented in various locations. We offer our participants the opportunity to switch between the locations for individual modules. This may be the case if a participant is unable to attend the module for health reasons or is prevented from attending for professional or other reasons. In these cases it is possible to complete the corresponding module on another CONSENSUS CAMPUS (depending on availability).

4. What is the focus of mediation training on the CONSENSUS campus?

The CONSENSUS CAMPUS lecturers have different professional backgrounds and specializations. An interdisciplinarity from law, communication science, psychology, economics, etc. ensures that different aspects of mediation are considered. The lecturers work in different fields of mediation: business mediation, family mediation, but also coaching and team mediation.

5. Who are the CONSENSUS Campus trainers?

The CONSENSUS Campus trainers have different professional backgrounds and specializations. An interdisciplinarity from law, communication science, psychology, economics, etc. ensures that different aspects of mediation are considered. All CONSENSUS Campus trainers are trained and practicing mediators from different fields of mediation: business mediation, family mediation, internal mediation and mediation in public spaces.

6. What is included in the training (besides 120 hours of classroom instruction)?

In order to successfully complete the training course to become a certified mediator, in addition to the 120 hours of classroom instruction on the CONSENSUS CAMPUS, a self-mediated case (in the course of the year after completion of the training) as well as individual case supervision and corresponding case documentation are required.

7. What is covered by the course fees?

The course fees include the training course according to the ZMediatAusbV to become a certified mediator (m/f/d) with 120 hours of attendance spread over five three-day modules, all teaching materials and the implementation of the final colloquium.

8. Who will I receive supervision from?

CONSENSUS CAMPUS carries out supervision for the graduates of our mediation training itself for a fee. All of our trainers can be booked for supervision. However, anyone who is experienced and active in the field of mediation/coaching can offer supervision. With proof of the necessary qualifications, the supervision can also be carried out by external supervisors. A corresponding documentation afterwards should provide information about the activities of the supervisor. You can find more information about supervision HERE.

9. How can the course fee be paid?

The course fee can be paid all at once or in four installments for a small surcharge.

10. How are the advanced courses (business or family mediation) structured?
48 hour specialist seminar (6 full days) in a fixed learning group, as a compact summer course or 2 times 3 days at the weekend

  • Theoretical input, practical exercises and role plays
  • Methodological competence with regard to the special constellations
  • Psychodynamic background, psychological factors
  • Legal framework, dealing with experts and lawyers
  • Final colloquium

32 hours of group supervision (2 times 2 days, can be booked individually, e.g. if own cases need to be discussed, on site or virtually)

  • Self-reflection, role clarity, dealing with critical issues
  • Work on the participants' own cases

Support for 20 hours of intervision in self-organized groups, question and answer sessions, practice cases, zoom rooms

11. What does QVM Standard mean?
The Qualityverbund Mediation (QVM) is an amalgamation of the board members from the mediation associations BAFM, BMWA, DFfM and DGM (»BBBDD associations« ). The aim is to create a joint seal of quality with higher requirements, based on the "minimum standard" of the certified mediator, into which all association standards flow - regardless of association membership. The QVM standard requires:

  • 200-hour training course (or 80-hour advanced course to the 120-hour basic course)
  • 20 hours of intervision (peer group work)
  • Final project, e.g. B. in the form of a written work (10-20 p.)
  • Documentation of a real mediation case after individual supervision within one year of completion
  • A total of five real mediation cases totaling 25 hours, which were reflected in individual supervision (including the case documented after the training) and two of which must be concluded with an agreement
12. International standards (IMI)
As the first training institute in Germany, we are proud to be pioneers in introducing international standards in our mediation training in Germany and part of one - through the International Mediation Institute (IMI) affiliated - international network. Individuals who successfully complete our mediation training are eligible for IMI Qualified Mediators recognition receive. The IMI standards include a wide range of competencies, a large number of practical exercises and feedback as well as supervision by experts from different fields of mediation. IMI's quality standards are set and maintained by the IMI Independent Standards Commission (ISC), a more than 70-member body of experienced mediators, judges and trainers from 27 countries.
13. What certificates will I receive after completing the training?
Anyone who has completed mediation training at CONSENSUS CAMPUS

  • the certificate "Certified Mediator" according to the German Ordinance (ZMediatAusbV)
  • a university certificate for mediation training (awarded by ISM International School of Management and CONSENSUS)
  • A certificate of recognition of international standards of training (certified by IMI International Mediation Institute)
