When I asked what “everything” meant, it became clear that their approach was limited to logic.

Yet, the human mind operates far beyond logic alone. Emotions are not a disruption to the process, they are a central part of it. When emotions are addressed, tension decreases, clarity increases, and underlying needs and interests become visible.

In mediation practice, various tools exist to help clients identify and express emotions, from cards and lists to emotional wheels. While effective, these methods often require time and a certain level of emotional awareness.

But what happens when mediators face constraints such as:

  • limited session time (e.g. 60 minutes)
  • clients with limited emotional vocabulary
  • resistance toward acknowledging emotions

To address these challenges, we developed the “Rectangle of Emotions.”

This is a projective tool containing 92 words that represent emotions, feelings, and emotional states. By engaging the unconscious mind, it allows clients to intuitively identify what resonates most, quickly and effectively.

In practice, the tool helps to pinpoint a client’s emotional state within just 1–3 minutes, creating a powerful entry point for deeper work.

In this webinar, we will go beyond identification and explore:

  • how emotions manifest in the body
  • where feelings are experienced physically
  • how mediators can work with these signals in real time

Participants will also have the opportunity to experience the tool firsthand.
